Antwerp is embracing winter and the Rubenshuis is doing that too by offering an entire winter weekend of activities. Stroll through the garden with a lantern like the ones used in Rubens's time or warm yourself up with a nice drink. Check out the programme below.

Embark on a guided journey and delve together into Rubens’s artistic past in the Rubens Experience, after which you can dig deeper into his private life in the redesigned garden.

Workshop – Monotype printing

Continuously from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Like to take a real piece of Rubens's garden home with you? At this workshop, you'll discover how to use actual leaves, flowers and branches to create a quirky print. Using the gelli plate technique, an intuitive, analogue process that produces surprising results, Rubens's garden becomes your canvas, and you'll be an artist for just a moment.

The Musical History Tour: The choir 'One of a Kind'

From 12 p.m. to 12.30 p.m.

The choir will provide an atmospheric performance. With fifty versatile voices, they will be presenting an amazing repertoire of pop, rock and songs from musicals. This performance is being organised by 'The Musical History Tour', which combines music and heritage in a way that allows each to be appreciated to its true potential. The choir will be raising funds for Mercy Ships, an international organisation that deploys hospital ships to provide medical care in countries where it is barely available.

Workshop – Make paint like Rubens

Continuously from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

A jar, a tube or a tin – that's how we receive our paint. But back in Rubens's day, things were very different. Rubens couldn't simply buy his paint ready-made. It was made by hand in his studio. Natural pigments, some oil or an egg – each ingredient determined the intensity, lustre and durability of the painting.  

Make your own paint and do some experimenting until you discover your most sizzling colour. Fancy going one step further? Put your own paint to good use by creating a piece of art of your own making.

Workshop – Create a personalised greeting card

Continuously from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Delve into Rubens's works and create your own sketch design under the guidance of Ateljee Juliet. Want to add something to make your greeting card complete? Ask the poet Rosie Guillaume to write a personalised poem for the lucky recipient of your card.

Winter bar in the garden

Open all-day Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Warm yourself up with a drink at our bar in the garden. It only makes this occasion more magical (drinks are served, for payment, to entry-ticket holders).
