Walter S. Gibson collection

American art historian and professor Walter S. Gibson (1932-2018) was one of the key figures in the research into Bruegel. In 2018, his entire archive was donated to the Rubenshuis, representing 60 years of research on the 15th- and 16th-century Dutch and Flemish masters. 

What does that look like in figures? The archive takes up 14 metres, includes 74 boxes and weighs almost a ton! It also contains unpublished material. Its unique bibliographic system is also interesting. The system's thematic and iconographic focus and layout allows researchers to retrieve the most obscure publications related to Bruegel research.
