Fritz Grossmann collection

… on Pieter Bruegel

Fritz Grossmann collection

A Bruegel specialist and assistant to Ludwig Burchard, Fritz Grossmann (1902-1984) devoted most of his life to Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1526/30-1569). His collection was donated to the museum in 1985.

Varied collection

Grossmann published three editions of his book on the painted oeuvre of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. His aim? To publish an oeuvre catalogue including all copies and lost works. Unfortunately, it remained unfinished. You can consult his preparations, notes, visual material and bibliographical references in this collection. Grossmann's library was integrated into the library of the Rubenshuis.
