New perspectives in an old house?
This minor presentation aims to be a space where various visions are combined; where the idea of the studio is repeatedly reinvented as a place of cross-fertilisation, investigation and generosity. A place where the dialogue between past and present is not closed, but repeatedly opened up.
The Rubenshuis was a breeding ground for talent. A place where hands met minds. And where creative souls flourished, collided, then continued their journey. Following ‘Peter-Paul-Pied-de-stalle’, the theatre monologue in which Mil Sinaeve injects new life into Rubens, art scientist Samuel Pennynck continues with the same fervour. With Goan Allebosch and Robbe Adriaensen, he adds two fresh voices.
In ‘Heretics’, the young makers break the rules and toy with expectations. For this occasion, they have created two works based on ‘The Fall of the Damned’ (ca. 1620–1621), in which they examine the technique, composition and strength of Rubens’ painting. Using two smaller autonomous creations, they enter an exciting dialogue with their revisions.
Taking hyperfixations that he keeps breaking open, Goan gives his images unexpected twists. Robbe investigates how colour and form create motion and build tension. In this exhibition, various visions are combined; the idea of the studio is repeatedly reinvented as a place of cross-fertilisation, investigation and generosity. Also, a place of dialogue between past and present, which is repeatedly readdressed.
