Charles Van Herck collection
... on Antwerp sculpture from the 17th and 18th centuries
Antwerp-based art dealer Charles Van Herck (1884-1955) came from a family of antique dealers. As a (grand)son, he took on an important role in the family business, while also conducting his own research.
Sculpture in photographs and sheets
The family business Van Herck - which featured Charles' name from the late 1940s onwards - organised monthly auctions up until 1990. Charles' main focus was on Antwerp sculpture from the 17th and 18th centuries. The core of the collection are sheets and photographs of various sculptors and their works. This sub-collection is inextricably linked to the documentation of Adolf Jansen, Van Herck's faithful research partner. Incidentally, the Jansen collection is also kept at the museum.
