Marie-Louise Hairs collection
... on Flemish floral still life in early modern art.
You can consult the complete working archive of Marie-Louise Hairs (1912-1998) in the library of the Rubenshuis. The art historian was attached to the Université de Liège and was justifiably referred to as Belgium's foremost floral still-life specialist.
From books to postcards
What's in the collection? The preparatory work for her numerous publications and correspondence on floral still lifes. This includes notebooks, typescripts, letters, albums and postcards. Hairs was good friends with art enthusiast Pierre de Séjournet. de Séjournet therefore took over her entire library and annotated photographs into his own collections after her death. As the Rubenshuis came into possession of his artwork documentation in 2011, Hairs' archives also found their way to the museum.
