Clara Serena, a superstar's daughter

Interactive guided visit for 11-12 year olds

Meet Clara Serena, the eldest daughter of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens.

She has a lot to tell you about life in the seventeenth century. How did Rubens spend his day? What games did children play? And which famous people dined with the Rubens family?

Clara Serena's dad was a very famous artist. A superstar that everyone wanted to meet. Clara Serena loved opening the door for the important people that visit their home. They had splendid horses, wore expensive clothes and sometimes travelled a long way. Kings and queens even visited Clara's dad.

And her dad loved all the attention. But he also enjoyed spending time with his family. And because there was no such thing as a camera or a smartphone in those days, he did not make photos or selfies of his children. No, Rubens painted lovely portraits of Clara Serena and her brothers Albert and Nicolaas. In fact, they were so beautiful that everyone wanted to buy them. And now these portraits are in museums all around the world. But the entire family has been briefly reunited during "Rubens in private".
