Van Dyck. Inspiring landscape drawings

15.05.99 - 22.08.99

The exhibition "Van Dyck. Inspiring landscape drawings" - for the first time - reunited a large number of the landscape drawings and watercolours of Anthony van Dyck.

Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641) followed a famous British tradition with his watercolours. The twenty-nine landscape drawings and watercolours that have been preserved are among some of the most beautiful in their genre. The quality of these "sketches after nature" is just as good if not better than the work of some of the most prominent seventeenth-century landscape painters. These valuable nature drawings were presented to the public in the framework of "VAN DYCK 1999" (on the occasion of the painter's 400th anniversary).
