In Rubens's footsteps

A walk through the city of Rubens starts near the River Scheldt, which has been Antwerp's lifeline for centuries.

You will discover the lovely historic city centre of Antwerp as you walk through picturesque streets, lined with historic dwellings that were once inhabited by stonemasons and bankers from Lombardy.

Your first stop is the master's house, the Rubens House in Wapper. Welcome in the house that Rubens had renovated after his own design, where he lived with his family until his death in 1640 and where many of his works of art were created in his studio, which was always bustling with activity.

Then you walk to the Cathedral of Our Lady, one of the most beautiful landmarks in our city. This impressive Gothic building, with seven naves, is unique in the world. Take in the stunning architecture and art: there are no fewer than four works by Rubens in this cathedral.

The tour ends in Grote Markt, the most beautiful square in the historic city. Did you know that the town hall is celebrating its 450th anniversary in 2015? There are lots of festivities planned.
