Practical tips for the walking tours

Our practical tips will guard against unpleasant surprises. They will save you time and money. Do take a look at them before starting out on one of the walks.

From here to there

Antwerp has an extensive network of buses and trams. Trams ride both above ground and below, in the Premetro. If you want to be completely free and to experience the city at its best, you can choose to walk or take a vélo. These are public bicycles that can be used to get around the city from A to B. When you have arrived, you simply put the bike back again. There are vélo stations in the city and on the left bank. When you borrow a bike from one of these stations, you can use it for an hour and a half. For more information, go to

Choose a route or mix and match

The Rubens House has enjoyed mapping out three Rubens routes for you. You are naturally free to combine and mix them as you please. Perhaps you would rather stay in the city centre: in that case, you might want to go the Rockox House instead of Park Spoor Noord. Are you interested in the city’s parks? In that case you could omit one of the museums and go to the Middelheim Museum instead.

A money-saving tip

Visit everything, enjoy a hearty lunch, and still end up saving money? That is possible with the Antwerp City Card. This card provides admission to a number of churches and many of the museums on our Rubens routes. It also gives you a discount at many restaurants and cafés as well as a few shops, besides which card holders can use the city’s public transport system free of charge. Like our three walking tours, the card has three variants: 24, 48 or 72 hours, to be counted from the moment of first use.

You can purchase the Antwerp city card from the city’s tourist information desk at Grote Markt 13. Here is a list of the museums that are included in the price

Another useful tip: look on the site Every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. onwards, this site offers tickets at 50% off the box office price for all sorts of shows and performances in Antwerp that same evening.
